由鬼才倪匡編劇，將《西遊記》中紅孩兒大戰孫悟空的情節活現銀幕。導演張徹處理文學巨著的手法相當老練，既保留了原著神髓，亦細緻安排各武打場面。故事講述牛魔王與鐵扇公主夫婦為吃唐僧肉，命兒子紅孩兒（丁華寵）對付孫悟空（劉中群）師徒。紅孩兒憑「三昧真火」屢挫悟空，後幸得觀音命龍女（張傳麗）協助悟空救回唐僧等人，更將紅孩兒點化，收其為觀音身邊的善才童子。此片弘揚回頭是岸的大道理，發人深省。。Michael Keegan-Dolan is one of the most remarkable choreographers working in dance and theatre today.
