在途中，汤姆叔叔结识了善良的女孩伊万杰琳，女孩恳求父亲圣克莱尔买下汤姆叔叔。然而，由于圣克莱尔发起了奴隶解放运动而遭到了很多奴隶主的痛恨，最终这位善良的男人死在了暗杀之下。就这样，汤姆叔叔再次成为了里格利的俘虏。汤姆叔叔十分同情女奴卡茜悲惨的身世，为了救她而遭遇了车祸，身受重伤奄奄一息的汤姆叔叔终于明白，没有人能够拯救他们，除了他们自己。。
