20世纪80年代初的日本，朝气蓬勃的年轻人个性张扬，肆无忌惮尽情展现自己对艺术和美的理解。在这股汹涌的潮流中，志愿成为漫画家的青年焰燃（柳乐优弥 饰）考入大阪艺术大学影视计划学科。他自信满满，不可一世，可是入学不久后信心很快遭受了挫折，原来同期中有着庵野秀明（安田显 饰）、山贺博之（室毅 饰）、赤井孝美（中村伦也 饰）这类日后在动漫界占有重要席位的怪物级人物。与他们相比，焰燃那点儿可怜的才华实在不值一提。好在有美丽的学姐森永敦子（山本美月 饰）从旁鼓励，又有安达充、高桥留美子、松本零士、石之森章太郎等漫画界前辈的影响，焰燃开始磕磕绊绊朝着他的梦想奔行……
