法国巴黎，孤独的小男孩帕斯克（Pascal Lamorisse 帕斯克•拉莫里斯 饰）独自走在上学的路上，他无意中捡到一只红气球。红气球仿佛一个淘气却又乖巧的孩子一般，紧紧跟随着小男孩去学校、坐车、上教堂。它为帕斯克带来了莫大的快乐，但是一群坏孩子嫉妒帕斯克有这么神奇的红气球，他们偷偷尾随，试图将气球打破……
